AccompanyingI am available to accompany auditions, rehearsals, recordings, and performances in Manhattan and Brooklyn (must be accessible by subway). I accompany only opera and classical songs, and musical theatre.Vocal coaching or Voice lessons? Which one for me?Vocal coaching helps you with presenting specific songs as well as you can using the vocal skills you currently possess. Vocal coaching can be either short-term or long-term. For vocal coaching to be successful, the singer must already have some degree of technical proficiency, an ability to either read music or teach themselves from a tape, and sing on-pitch. Vocal coaching primarily deals with performance traditions, stage presence, acting, and diction, and can also involve repertoire selection.Voice lessons (properly done) emphasize your vocal technique and developing your abilities as a singer. Learning to improve your pitch, your range, your vocal strength, "breath control", etc. are addressed in voice lessons over the long term. As a general rule, anywhere from 0-50% of the voice lesson is spent on repertoire. I work with all styles of repertoire, specializing in musical theatre (sometimes known as Broadway and Showtunes). Due to time constraints, voice students rarely learn to read music in voice lessons OR vocal coaching. Traditionally, voice students learn to read music in choir, music theory classes, and/or piano lessons. I do incorporate music reading into my voice teaching as much as I can in the time available. I do all vocal coaching and voice teaching in my home studio. See Rates for complete information.
