About Denise Ivanoff
Denise Ivanoff is an active vocal coach/accompanist, as well as a teacher of
both piano and voice. She currently gives piano lessons and voice lessons at the
Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy as
well as in her private studio in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Students have gone on to
perform at Symphony Silicon Valley, the New York City Opera, the Pennsylvania
Renaissance Festival, the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and the Berkshire
Festival. Ms. Ivanoff also has extensive experience accompanying singers and
instrumentalists on both piano and harpsichord, and has rehearsed and directed
opera scenes at the Baylor University Opera Theatre. She has performed as a
soloist nationally and internationally, including at the Bösendorfer-Saal in
Vienna, Austria.
Also an experienced singer and actress, Ms. Ivanoff has participated in
performances of Bernstein's Mass and Brahms' Ein Deutsches
Requiem, appeared in several stage productions including The Crucible
and The Spoon River Anthology, and has been captured on celluloid for
assorted commercials, TV pilots, and independent and student films. These
practical experiences, as well as acting studies at HB Studio and Stella Adler,
give Ms. Ivanoff a unique perspective as a vocal coach.
Ms. Ivanoff was accepted as a member of the New York Singing Teachers’
Association in 2006, and has been active in the New York State Music Teachers
Association (NYSMTA) as a member of the Executive Board and as Newsletter Editor
since 2002. In 2006, she was selected to represent New York State at the Annual
Music Teachers' National Association Leadership Summit in Cincinnati, OH. Prior
to moving to New York, she taught and coached in Texas, running a successful
private studio with students progressing into advanced repertoire, performing in
festivals, receiving high Guild ratings, and providing music at church services.
Ms. Ivanoff was a piano instructor for adult and pre-college education at
McLennan Community College, transforming a one-section, one-level class to a
multi-section course with a waiting list and creating courses for subsequent
levels.
Ms. Ivanoff earned her B.M. degree in Piano magna cum laude from Baylor University, as well the M.M. degree in Piano Pedagogy and
Performance, also from Baylor University. Ms. Ivanoff has also studied vocal
pedagogy, receiving Level II Certification in Somatic Voicework® The LoVetri
Method, at the Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute at
Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia. She currently studies with Ms. LoVetri at
The Voice Workshop™ in Manhattan.
